Travelling in Singapore With a Baby

Singapore is a destination that tops many people’s travel bucket lists because of its exciting allure and sheer range of things to see and do. If you are a new parent looking for a holiday destination and are worried about taking your first trip with your baby then Singapore should be high on your list of potential destinations. Some international holidays are a little tricky to navigate as a tourist with a small baby, but if you opt for Singapore then you will be delighted by how easy and convenient it is to navigate this small city state with a little one in tow.

For starters, Singapore is known for its superb cleanliness. A clean and hygienic environment is very important to those living and working in Singapore so public spaces are beautifully maintained to a high standard. You won’t come across things like litter in the streets, and there are regular cleaning missions undertaken to keep public areas clean and safe. Furthermore, crime rates in Singapore are some of the lowest in the world. Even crimes that tend to be high in tourist areas like pickpocketing are relatively rare occurrences.

While it may not be the cheapest place to travel to by air, you will be rewarded with an enriching experience unlike any other. Similar to tourist hotspots like Dubai, Singapore is known for its enormous range of attractions and activities, and is home to some of the best days out in the world. Luckily, many of these activities and planned days out are perfect for families, even those with the smallest babies.

Reassuringly, there are many fantastic baby product stores in Singapore that can get you kitted out for your trip if you need anything once you arrive. If you have forgotten to pack a baby care essential or something is lost or broken during your trip, you’ll be able to find a replacement very easily and will be well taken care of by a member of staff specialising in all things baby.

Navigating Singapore with a baby

Whether you are wearing your baby in a sling, using a micro stroller, or even something as large as a plush double stroller you will find it easy to get about in Singapore. The main streets tend to be wide and very safe, and even the malls and side streets will easily accommodate your family and all your gear as you explore the city. At peak times the streets can get busy, but you are unlikely to face any real barriers to getting about freely.

Public transportation in Singapore is easy and convenient to use, even if you have your hands full with a little one. Trains, buses and the MRT (mass rapid transport) networks can get you and your family where you need to go in a very short amount of time. If you prefer to go by car and have a travel system that allows for it then cabs are an excellent option and will give you a moment to relax and enjoy the sights, as well as the on board air conditioning.

Singapore weather

Unsurprisingly, due to its geographical location Singapore is generally hot and humid with temperatures around the mid 20s. If you are concerned about the heat then January is the coolest month to visit. With that being said, anywhere you go will have air conditioning to keep you cool and comfortable year round, and even if you travel during the hottest part of the year there are plenty of places outdoors where you can relax and catch a refreshing sea breeze. These are also highly popular picnic spots for families with young children.

As long as you are able to seek shelter from the sun, keep your sunscreen topped up, stay properly hydrated, and make the most of air conditioning indoors then you will have no problems travelling in Singapore with your baby. Many parents will keep a small, portable fan and a spray bottle of water on hand that they can use to cool their kids down if they start to get irritable from the heat. This is extremely effective, and is something that you can do quickly and easily to soothe your little one.
